RIP | Third Death Strike Umhlobo Wanene This Month

Just weeks after mourning the loss of Reverend Nomathamsanqa Rweqana and Sonwabo Yawa, Umhlobo Wenene has been hit with another devastating blow.

Actor and esteemed voice-over artist Nomampondo Noluthando Simayi tragically lost her life in a car accident over the weekend.

Umhlobo Wenene confirmed Simayi’s passing in a heartfelt statement, expressing deep sorrow over the tragic news.

The accident occurred as Simayi was returning from the funeral of Sonwabo Yawa, adding to the station’s recent string of losses.

In addition to Simayi, two other drama actors, Nokukhanya Kula (Thandi) and Mzwandile Nzenze (Gibson), along with senior producer Toffee Zitshu, were injured in the same accident.

This tragedy comes in the wake of the recent funerals for Rev Rweqana and Yawa, compounding the station’s grief.

Loyiso Bala, SABC Eastern Cape Business Manager, expressed profound condolences to Simayi’s family and wished the injured colleagues a swift recovery.

He emphasized the station’s need for support during this challenging time and urged listeners and fans to keep the affected families in their thoughts and prayers.

Reverend Rweqana who passed on two weeks ago retired two years ago from the station after joining in 2008.
